The
territorial project's goals, as defined by the Park, are organized
around three fields of activityThe territorial project's goals, as
defined by the Park, are organized around three fields of activity
:
-
managing and protecting the environment,
-
contributing to the economic development of the
area,
- contributing to territorial planning and
two particular themes,
-
mobilizing the population,
- assessing
the condition and the evolution of the area.
The latter themes
are an integral part of the implementation of the various goals.
| |
Conscious of the extent of its natural
heritage, the Park has set itself the following main targets : to
maintain and recover the biodiversity of this environment, to restore
a hedgerow landscape, to preserve the zones of particular interest
in terms of ecology, and to encourage the improvement of waste management
Managing an protecting environmemt
Among
the initiatives taken, there is the contractual management of the
wetlands, the publication of a guide to fishing routes, planting advice
for private individuals, management of a nature reserve, support for
municipalities and marshland syndicates
Contributing
to economic development
The economic, social and cultural development of the Marais du Cotentin
et du Bessin Regional Nature Park implies respect for and valorization
of the local cultural heritage and know-how.
.
The main guidelines for action are : to strengthen
marshland agriculture, to help the economic actors in developing
tourism activities, to facilitate the development of goods or services
using local resources, to support environmental performance of businesses,
to restore and enhance the thatched and mud house heritage.
| |
Thus the Park has published tourist documentation and has established
a tourist center at Ponts d'Ouve.
Site development, the establishment of bicycle circuits, joining
the European charter of sustainable tourism, the Park trademark,
support for project sponsors, the study program "restoration
of the mud building heritage" are seminal actions.
Managing and protecting the environment |
To preserve the wealth of its natural environments
and the high quality of its landscapes, the Park has done everything
in its power to make sustainable territorial planning possible.
Here are a few examples of the initiatives taken:
technical
assistance in drafting landscape charters, enforcement of the law
on publicity, support for the renovation of private vacant structures
| |
| |
Mobilizing the population |
The protection of the environment, the improvement
of the quality of life and sustainable development cannot be envisaged
without informing and educating
schoolchildren, without the participation of the Park's population
and users. They also imply extensive involvement on the part of
elected officials.
| |
| |
Assesing
the condition and evolution of area |
Taking into account the nature of the challenges the
Park must face and the goals it has set for itself, it cannot do
without a research tool and an instrument for the evaluation of
its policies. Two subjects are of concern here: human activities
and environmental heritage.

environmental heritage. Inventories and monitoring make it possible
to construct a database using a geographic information system (GIS).
